Words with friends has had a number of celebrity players, including Chris Johnson (running back), John Mayer, Rainn Wilson, Terrell Owens, Eliza Dushku, Al Roker, and Boston Red Sox teammates Adrian Gonzalez and Dustin Pedroia.Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt were quoted as saying they play Words with Friends together every day.
Committee (IOC) has officially recognized “Words with Friends” and “Farmville” as official sporting events in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.
The decision to include the popular FB pass-time as an Olympic event is being cheered by fans across Facebook and Blogosphere. Millions of users are reported to be sharpening their words skills and train themselves for the next event. “These are the sports for the next generation”, said Samantha Becker from Marysville, OH, “We are still playing games from the 19th century in the Olympics. Olympics is a peoples sporting event and should include games that people play on a daily basis.”
Morgan Demper from Uptown New York was ecstatic, “This is a great start”, he blogged, “I can’t wait to see the day when we have Angry Birds, Temple Run and Cut The Rope as official events”. “Like every other sport the key is to start early and train hard. My 3 year old son has started his training in earnest and spends more than 4 hours everyday practicing the skills for these games”
Social Media giants, Facebook and Zynga are investing heavily to promote the games on their sites and get more people to spend their valuable time practicing for the 2016 games. in an unprecedented move Facebook has booted more than 78 million fake users to ensure that users don’t end up playing against cyber robots.
Efforts are underway to include additional games like “Take over by Zombie Farm”, “World of Warcraft” and skill events like “Speed texting” and “Text while driving” in the 2016 Olympics.
To Qualify for the events users must log in a minimum of 23 hours of App use per week and be ticketed for at least 3 times for “Texting While Driving” offense every 6 months.
