HurricaneHansa caught up with the veteran tennis player for tea at his plush Kolkata house. Leander was really excited about his upcoming debut in the Bollywood movie Rajdhani Express. The movie which was announced in 2008 and will likely release in January 2013 features Leander in the role of a terrorist.
On being questioned about this new venture, the tennis star stated that aesthetically he would be a perfect fit for the role. However, in order to practice his acting he had to learn how to threaten. “And is there a better way than to practice in real life situations? When my efforts of making it to Afghanistan (he was denied visa by the Afghan government) failed, the next logical step was to threaten the tennis board on Olympics”. This was possible with a little help from his best pals Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna who outright refused to partner him in doubles. Infact the trio put a lot of effort to make the entire ordeal resemble a C grade film.
Yours truly brought up the fact that realistically Leander might not have many years left in him to play at an international level. To which he replied, “I think I will play until I am 45. I am only 38 now, so I think I have a good 10-15 years left. Besides age is just a number and I stopped counting at 23”.
